6 Genius Skincare Tricks
There are a number of changes you can make to take better care of your skin but sometimes change can be overwhelming. What products should I be using? What does a serum do? What is the difference between a physical and chemical sun protectant? SO MANY QUESTIONS!!
To keep change simple, I have narrowed things down to 6 GENIUS skincare changes you can make in your routine without having to buy new products.
1) Stop sleeping with your makeup on
When you are sleeping your skin is working hard to repair itself and absorb the skin care products that you have applied. It is also working on regenerating itself. Damaged and dead skin cells are replaced with new ones. When you sleep with your eyeshadow on you are clogging the oil glands on your eyes. This can lead to eye infections and or a sty.
Before heading to bed is the perfect time to use your more intensive skin care products like those that target acne, hydration, or anti-aging. During the day external factors from our environment and makeup can interrupt their effectiveness. When you are sleeping your skin is less disturbed by those external factors so your skin can absorb those products more effectively.
2) Wash your sheets and pillowcases
Our pillows and sheets collect oils and dirt from our hair and faces which can lead to blemishes. It is ideal to wash your sheets and pillowcases once a week. I make this part of my Sunday routine each week.
3) Double Cleanse your face
By cleansing your face twice you are able to properly remove all of your makeup/foundation and pollution particles. This is not a step that needs to be taken in the morning but rather in the evenings to ensure that your skin is prepped for your beauty rest and nightly products.
4) Pat Dry
Avoid using your daily hand towel when drying your face after cleansing. By patting a soft clean towel, or even a single use soft paper towel, to absorb the water you are protecting your delicate facial skin from unnecessary abrasive pulling. I prefer to have a few towels separate that I use only for my face.
5) Take Care of your neck
The skin on your neck and chest is very thin and delicate and will show age and sun damage faster than your face. When applying your nightly skincare products be sure to moisturize your neck and chest too. Also, be sure to apply sunscreen beyond your face daily. It's important that you do your part to avoid having a young looking face with an old looking neck by making simple changes to your routine now.
6) Only Exfoliate 2x a Week
Many people think that exfoliating their skin with abrasive scrubs daily will help to keep their skin looking more youthful. In reality, it's damaging the outer layer of your skin and causing mini micro tears. For many of us, we have pretty medium thick skin so the most we should be exfoliating is twice a week, for those with thin skin you should stick to once a week.
